WORLD CUP - Anelka Sent Home

Anelka does a Roy Keane

Nicolas Anelka has been kicked out of the World Cup and sent home by France. Apparently he made "an astonishing verbal attack" at coach Raymond Domenech - and with the support of the French Football Federation, he's been shown the door. It brings to mind Roy Keane's ejection from the Irish squad in Saipan before the 2002 World Cup. The French camp is clearly not a happy one, and this won't make a huge difference. They need to beat hosts South Africa, and hope there is a winner in the game between Uruguay and Mexico if they are to progress. A draw is good enough for both those teams to progress, and I'll be shocked if they don't play out a draw. Karma is a bitch - and the French, who only got the World Cup thanks to Thierry Henry's cheating against the Irish, are having a nightmare tournament. Schadenfruede.
